After several years of working with the John and Beverly Stauffer Foundation board to build an endowed scholarship for the CSU Trustees' Award, Trustee Emeritus Laurence K. Gould, Jr. established his own named scholarship in 2022. Dr. Gould served as a trustee of the California State University system from 1996 to 2002 and chaired the board from 2000 to 2002. He was instrumental in the establishment of CSU Channel Islands, having served on the university's Site Authority Board from 1999 to 2002 and its Finance Authority Board from 2000 to 2002.
He has practiced law in Los Angeles since 1971, specializing in estate planning. Dr. Gould currently serves as a trustee of the Della Martin Foundation that has endowed chairs for psychiatric research at the USC, UCLA and UCI and a fund at California Institute of Technology for discoveries in mental illness. He serves as treasurer of the Stauffer Foundation and is board chair of the California Missions Foundation.
From 2003 to 2009 Dr. Gould served as a commissioner of the then-named Western Association of Schools and Colleges that accredits the senior colleges and universities in California, Hawaii and the Pacific Territories. Dr. Gould previously served as secretary of the Central City Association of Los Angeles, trustee of the California State Summer School for the Arts, treasurer of the Los Angeles Music Center Opera League, president of the California Mission Studies Association, trustee of the Pasadena Museum of History and as a member of the National Advisory Council on Financial Aid to Students.
