In 2013, Dr. Kenneth Fong, trustee emeritus of the CSU Board of Trustees, endowed a scholarship fund to recognize an outstanding STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) student of the CSU Trustees' Award for Outstanding Achievement. Dr. Fong is a distinguished alumnus with a Bachelor of Science in biology from San Francisco State University. He went on to receive a doctorate in molecular biology and microbiology from Indiana University.

Dr. Fong founded Clonteach Laboratories, a company that provided services to help researchers explore questions about gene discovery, regulation and function, where he served as CEO until its acquisition in 1999. He is currently the president of Kenson Ventures, a company that provides strategic consulting and venture financing for biotech companies. In addition to his work in the biotech industry, Dr. Fong currently sits on the advisory boards of the graduate program of University of the Pacific; the Developmental Center for Biotechnology, Taiwan; and the Whitehead Biomedical Institute, MIT.​
