A partnership with Chevron has enabled the CSU to be a national leader in preparing teachers for the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The partnership places emphasis on addressing the new engineering design focus of the NGSS.
Chevron has supported the CSU's efforts in advancing "Engineering is Elementary," a program developed by the Boston Museum of Science that prepares teachers and provides kits for them to introduce engineering in the elementary and middle grades.
The company has supported development of new online instructional methods courses in science and math that prepare teachers for the NGSS and Common Core State Standars for Mathematics and has supported the STEM Teacher and Researcher Program, designated by the President's Council of Advisors in Science and Technology as an exemplary model for the nation.
The program gives STEM teacher candidates paid summer internships in the nation's foremost NASA, NOAA and Department of Energy labs. Additionally, future math and science teacher candidates serve as STEM learning facilitators in Chevron's STEM Zone during sports events.
Chevron has also supported the CSU in innovative work featuring Makerspaces and Digital Fabrication Laboratories, or Fab Labs.
