The mission of the Charter College of Education at California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) is to prepare teachers, counselors, educational specialists and leaders to provide the best possible education to students and families in the Los Angeles basin. As a learning community of students, faculty, staff and community members, the Charter College of Education works collaboratively to ensure that teachers and related professionals are prepared to facilitate the maximum achievement potential for all learners. In efforts to meet the growing demands for teachers and school personnel, the Charter College of Education offers traditional, cohort, intern, and residency pathways to provide just the right option for prospective undergraduate and graduate students that best meet their interests, learning styles and life demands.
Advanced authorizations and degree program offerings, including bilingual authorization, reading specialist, counseling, school psychology, and educational administration are available. The college also has unique offerings in special education including low incidence area specializations and a robust intern program. Opportunities to combine a wide variety of master’s degrees with teaching credentials are supported by faculty with content and teaching expertise who are actively engaged in the local community. Opportunities for doctoral study in a jointly offered Ph.D. Program in Special Education with UCLA and an Ed.D. Program with options in Educational Leadership Pre-K-12 Education and Postsecondary Education are available to qualified applicants.
