For over a century and a half, San José State’s Connie L. Lurie College of Education has prepared the majority of the teachers, administrators, counselors, and speech pathologists who serve the Silicon Valley and the South Bay area. Its graduates have touched the lives of millions of children and young people. The Lurie College is a learning community dedicated to equity and excellence. Equity initially addresses access and outcomes, and the College works to incorporate equity in action through policy and process. Excellence involves knowledge and skills with a commitment to lifelong curiosity, imagination and learning. The result is the Lurie College's commitment to the preparation of educators and engaged citizens who have the knowledge, skills, dispositions, and ethics that ensure equity and excellence for all students in a culturally diverse, technologically complex, global community.
The Lurie College has a long history of close collaborative partnerships with the region's schools and social service providers. Although the majority of students gain their experiences in Silicon Valley schools and clinics, programs at San José State also reach students to the north and south. The Lurie College makes use of new technologies to offer a quality education to students in all of their programs. The goal is to prepare educators and other service providers who are knowledgeable about and adept at using new technologies to educate their students and serve their clients. The doctoral program (Ed.D) at San José State draws upon this work and prepares outstanding candidates who will become the leaders of the region’s 21st century schools.
