Capitol Quartet

The Capitol Quartet's eclectic repertoire features contemporary works for saxophone, transcriptions of classical and jazz favorites, jazz originals, and traditional French quartet compositions. A recent commission and premiere, Carter Pann’s Tlhe MECHANICS: Six From The Shop Floor, was named as a finalist for the 2016 Pulitzer Prize in music.

John Hallberg

John Hallberg is a saxophone performer and educator currently based in Southern California. He has performed across the United States, Europe, and Asia in venues such as Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall, Segerstrom Hall, Mozart Concert Hall of Zuhai, McCormick Place, Bovard Auditorium, and at numerous university campuses around the world.

Ricardo Martinez

Ricardo Martinez was Grand Prize Winner in the 2019 Plowman Chamber Music Competition and First Prize Winner in the 2017 Chicago Woodwind Ensemble Competition. At University of the Pacific, Martinez has collaborated with the Pacific Arts Woodwind Quintet, artists-in-residence at the Conservatory of Music. He frequently participates in consortiums and collaborates with composers.

Saxophonist/composer Benjamin Boone’s Origin Records album, The Poetry of Jazz, was recognized as a milestone poetry/jazz project, “an album of unmistakable… historic importance” (UK Vibe) upon its release in 2018. Boone’s contemporary classical compositions have garnered honors and awards from organizations such as the International Society of Contemporary Music, Billboard Magazine, the American Music Center, and many other organizations.

Anton Smirnoff

Anton Smirnoff received bachelor’s degree from Novosibirsk State Conservatory in Novosibirsk, Russia, his artist diploma from Oberlin Conservatory, and master’s degree from Yale University. He made more than 1000 public performances world-wide at venues that include Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Avery Fischer Hall, Walt Disney Hall, and Metropolitan Museum of Art.
