Every summer for almost 35 years, CSU Summer Arts has assembled dozens of the world's top creatives to be a part of our annual Festival -– to perform and to teach our students. For the festival, which is open to the community, we produce more than 30 live events each summer, spanning the spectrum of dance, media, music, theatre, visual art & design, and writing.

The Cutting-Edge Collaboration with Pilobolus and Jacob Jonas The Company Student Showcase features a series of short films conceptualized and developed by each of the students. Course participants explored movement, collaboration, and composition in all kinds of diverse forms while working with dancers from Pilobolus and Jacob Jonas The Company.

The Voice Actor’s Ultimate Tool Kit Student Showcase features excerpts of work from each of the students. Course participants created characters on mic, and learned recording and editing techniques to develop the projects presented here.

The Chicago-Style Comedy Student Showcase features a mixture of improvisational and sketch comedy, all live and unfiltered! Course participants augmented their skills through daily physical and comedy workouts and focused on ensemble techniques and the art of collaboration.

The Flash Form: Cross-Genre Writing and Publishing Student Showcase features course participants reading their creative non-fiction, memoir, poetry, and fiction pieces developed in the flash form process of compressed yet vibrant expressions of story and character.

The Advanced Painting Masterclass Student Showcase features a series of visual works of art using a variety of media and representing the relationship between content and form.

The Collaboration and Devised Theatre Student Showcase features a series of collaborative pieces that highlight ensemble-building and devising. Students used contemporary techniques, such as Viewpoints, to weave together writing, designing, acting, and directing.

The Performance of Identity Student Showcase features the stories of identity from the students as expressed through their work in voice, movement, and generating the text for performance.

The Social Action Writing Student Showcase features a series of essays representing the op-ed format, persuasive essays, and personal narratives. During the course, the students focused on how to match the message with the audience, how to identify online publications, and how to pitch one’s work.

The Art of Scoring for Video Games Student Showcase features all original music composed by the students from the course. Compositions include title screen music, music for an interactive game sequence, and music for a cinematic cut scene.

The Storytelling with Virtual Reality Student Showcase features 360 degree videos from the students that can be viewed with or without VR headgear such as an Oculus Quest 2. The headset comes with hand controllers that allow the user to set up and navigate within the system. In the creation of the videos, the students acted as editors, animators, sound designers, production designers, cinematographers, and story developers.
