For the past decade, the Commission on Professional and Continuing Education (CPaCE) has recognized outstanding individual contributions in support of the California State University Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) in serving our students.
Named for Edward M. McAleer, Jr., statewide dean for more than 15 years, this award was created in his honor to recognize outstanding innovation and excellence in the field of PaCE.

PURPOSE
Nominees are recognized for demonstrating a passion for creating new models and pathways, new partnerships and collaborations, and creating new ways in which PaCE expands options and access for students. Ideal candidates are individuals who envision and execute innovative ideas utilizing exceptional standards.
DEADLINE
Completed nominations must be received by 4:00 p.m. February 14, 2024.
ELIGIBILITY
Eligible nominees include CSU administrator/staff, faculty, and student/faculty collaborations as outlined below. One award may be given in each category, but it may not be awarded in years in which no nominee fully meets the standards and criteria of the award.
APPLICATION CATEGORIES
There are three (3) categories within the fellowship program applicants may apply based on the category's eligibility outlined below:

Administrator/Staff Excellence and Innovation: Nominees include an administrator or staff member who has demonstrated excellence in advancing new programs, partnerships, support services, and/or aligning PaCE with systemwide initiatives.

Faculty Excellence and Innovation: Nominees for the faculty award create exceptional learning experiences for students in CSU PaCE programs, utilizing new or different approaches that promote excellence in teaching, research, and service that result in high levels of student achievement and sustainable, impactful practices.

Student/Faculty Collaborations: Nominees for the student/faculty collaborations are outstanding students (current students/alumni) and faculty collaborators, or student and faculty mentors across academic disciplines that facilitate research, scholarship, and contribute to the CSU mission benefiting students and/or the community.
The final selections will depend upon the applications received and the decision of the PaCE ARC Community of Practice (CoP).
AWARD AMOUNT AND USES
Each category winner receives a $5,000 campus award. One award may be given in each category, but it may not be awarded in years in which no nominee fully meets the standards and criteria of the award. Awardees will have access to funds through their campus department and must be spent for self-support related expenditures. Expenditures may include travel, conference registration, or the funds may be designated for scholarships for self-support students.
APPLICATION REVIEW PROCESS AND AWARD NOTIFICATION
The CPaCE Awards and Recognition Committee (ARC) Community of Practice (CoP) reviews each nomination and determines which nominees, if any, to present to the Commission for a vote during a CPaCE Business meeting. Awardees are selected by the (ARC) based on the nominations received from CSU campuses. The decision is based on a summary and recommendations presented by the CPaCE ARC CoP. Awardees in each category are notified via congratulatory communication and will be formally honored and invited to attend a future commission event.

CPaCE AWARDS AND RECOGNITION COMMITTEE (ARC)
The CPaCE Awards and Recognition Committee (ARC) Community of Practice (CoP) establishes standards and activities within PaCE to recognize excellence in course design, instruction, facilitation, and leadership development for faculty, staff, and subject matter experts serving self-support learners in the CSU. The Committee selects participants according to established guidelines. This CoP also receives individualized career plan updates/presentations from participants and supervisors at the end of the one-year program.
