Congratulations are in order for the four CSU campuses that have been named "Best Values in Public Education" by Kiplinger's Personal Finance. San Diego State, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and CSU Long Beach all made the list of the top 100 for this year. The ranking recognizes four-year institutions that combine outstanding education with economic value.
Congratulations also to Cal Maritime for being named one of the top military colleges in the nation by Military Advanced Education. This is the second year they were chosen, and it reflects the high quality of the programs that they offer.
Also, thank you to the faculty mentors and student researchers who joined us yesterday to discuss their marine and coastal research at the CSU Council on Ocean Affairs, Science and Technology's (COAST). COAST promotes interdisciplinary multi-campus collaborations to advance research and knowledge of California's costal and marine ecosystems.
Last but not least I wanted to let you all know the sad news of the passing of a longtime friend of the CSU, and a good friend of mine: June Cooper. June worked tirelessly for the CSU system for 30 years, most recently as executive vice chancellor. She also served as the first woman and the first African-American president of Cal State Long Beach. She was dedicated, hard-working, courageous and humble. She was truly one of a kind, and she will not be forgotten.
That concludes my report. It is now time for the Chancellor's Report.
