Robert D. Clark, Ph.D.

Distinguished Teaching Award, 2015-2016
San Luis Obispo
Department of Kinesiology

Learning how to think isn’t easy.  However, if you design classroom activities that require keen observation and robust discussion, they gain an increased ability for working with others and solving problems.
Bob Clark attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology.  Initially drawn to Health Education and Health Promotion, he earned his PhD in Kinesiology at Louisiana State University and specializes in Biomechanics.  Since arriving at Cal Poly in 1998, he has employed biomechanical principles to examine not only sedentary lifestyles that lead to chronic dysfunction, but also for exploring the effectiveness of various types of physical activities that affect health and well being.  Students in Dr. Clark’s classes are reminded that physical activity is important, but they also learn to employ science and critically think about the consequences of engaging in activities that may lead to chronic pain later in life.
