Mahmood Ibrahim, Ph.D.

George Hart Award for Faculty Leadership, 2016-17
Pomona
Department of History

Collegiality has provided me with the space in which to grow as a teacher-scholar and to serve Cal Poly Pomona and its students by my role in the Academic Senate

For Cal Poly Pomona Professor Mahmood Ibrahim, receiving the 2016-17 George P. Hart Award for Outstanding Faculty Leadership was a fitting tribute. After all, Ibrahim, who started at the university in 1989, shared office space with Hart and served with him in the Academic Senate. Three decades later, Ibrahim remains a crucial member of the Academic Senate. Ibrahim, who specializes in Middle East history, is a four-time Fulbright Scholar, earning his latest in 2011. His commitment to the university is underscored by his involvement in panels including the Graduate Council, the Senate's General Education Committee and Faculty Affairs Committee. Ibrahim is the author of "Merchant Capital and Islam" and "Who Makes History: Palestinian Experience in Oral History."
