Yohannes Shiferaw, Ph.D.

Outstanding Faculty Award, 2015-16
Northridge
Department of Physics & Astronomy

One of my most rewarding experiences is introducing students to a research problem, as it gives them the feeling for exploration which they cannot get in the classroom.
Dr. Shiferaw has demonstrated the ability to connect with students across a breadth of undergraduate and graduate Physics courses. His dynamic teaching style and use of pedagogy enhance student learning, specifically developing students’ ability to think critically and actively engage with course material. Dr. Shiferaw has developed a vibrant research group at CSUN where students are engaged in quality research projects in Biological Physics, specifically in the study of abnormal cardiac rhythms. Several students in the lab have already published papers in quality research journals. He is an outstanding scientist, highly respected among his peers worldwide. Most noteworthy of his exemplary contributions is his impact on department curriculum and colloquia, and to his students in the Northridge Chapter of the Society of Physics Students.
