Oscar Perez never believed he would ever attend a university or become successful. His life was full of many adversities and hardships, including his fathers addictions, his parents' domestic violence and divorce, and the struggles of living in a single-parent household. He credits his mother for his achievement and success, and the belief that education is the key to success.
In 2011 Oscar graduated from California State University, Fresno with a double major in social work and broadcast journalism. He then entered the masters program in social work. His passion for human justice and equality led him to volunteer countless hours at the Center for Women and Culture and the Social Work Student Association. He has been president of Students Providing Empowerment, Advocacy & Knowledge (SPEAK) a program that educates the public about domestic violence and sexual abuse. Oscar is committed to giving a voice to the voiceless and a helping hand to those in need.
After graduating with his masters degree, Oscar plans to pursue a career as a social worker and an international correspondent on child and social welfare issues.
