In 2007, Dr. Murray L. Galinson, trustee emeritus of the CSU Board of Trustees and chair of the board from 2004 to 2006, endowed a scholarship fund to recognize a CSU Trustees' Award for Outstanding Achievement recipient who best exemplifies extraordinary public service to his or her home, university or global community.
Dr. Galinson's community service included membership on the boards of the Weingart Foundation, Leichtag Foundation, First Dental Health Co., Galinson Foundation and the Jewish Funders Network.
Professionally, Dr. Galinson was the chairman of the board and CEO of San Diego National Bank, a partner in La Jolla Management Co. and a board member of PriceSmart Co. and Price/Legacy Co. Dr. Galinson also served as the director of administration for the national Mondale/Ferraro Campaign and as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of California and the District of Minnesota. He practiced law with the firm of Mullin, Galinson, Swirnoff and Weinberg in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In his seven-year term on the CSU Board of Trustees (2000-2007), Dr. Galinson participated in the development of many historic initiatives for the CSU, including those that improved graduation rates, helped to better prepare high school students for college and provided greater outreach to underserved communities. It was during this time that the CSU also gained the right to grant Ed.D. degrees. Dr. Galinson embraced the CSU's unique system and was proud of all that it accomplishes.
Upon Dr. Galinson's passing in 2013, the Jewish Community Foundation made a generous gift in Dr. Galinson's honor to fully fund his scholarship endowment.
