Women’s Studies Program

Our scholarship must be answerable to the ethical demands of service; our service must be informed by the intellectual rigor of our research.
Kathryn Forbes is committed to using her scholarly expertise to make educational institutions responsive to the needs of women and girls. Since joining the Women’s Studies faculty in 2000, she has led Title IX community education projects and worked with different constituencies to ensure Title IX compliance at area schools. She has organized salary negotiation workshops for female students, participated in university committees that create policies that promote work/life balance, and developed programming on social justice issues in education. She also applies her research on the sociology of employment and law to serve the California Faculty Association as a Faculty Rights Representative. She helps faculty mobilize their employment rights and works with administrators to find ways to address institutional inequities.
