The download (D) command is used to transfer compendium reports from CIRS (the mainframe) to your desktop computer for use in other inquiry systems, campus databases and various applications. The download can also be initiated while a report is being browsed. Before starting the download process, contact your security coordinator to confirm you are authorized to download.
Due to the variety of emulation packages available, this manual cannot address how to perform the actual download on the PC side and will only discuss how to initiate the download function from CIRS. Refer to your emulation software or contact your campus IT support for assistance.
To initiate a download, type a D to the left of the desired report cycle and press enter.

Download Instructions Screen
At the download screen, read the instructions, copy the name of the file being downloaded (including the single quotes) and then type GO at the command line and press enter.

TRANSFER SOFTWARE REQUIRES THAT SINGLE QUOTES ENCLOSE
THE FROM FILE NAME SPECIFIED ABOVE. REFER TO YOUR
SOFTWARE DOCUMENTATION FOR THE CORRECT DOWNLOAD SYNTAX.
4. WHEN THE DOWNLOAD IS COMPLETE SWITCH BACK TO THE MAINFRAME.
5. PRESS THE F3 KEY TO EXIT.
Follow the instructions exactly, otherwise, the download feature will not work properly.
The name of the file you are downloading is provided in Step 3 of the instructions. Use only the name supplied, otherwise the file transfer will fail.
TSO Command Processor Screen
When the TSO COMMAND PROCESSOR screen is displayed, open the file transfer program on your PC. (That is usually done by clicking on a toolbar icon.) Do not make any entries at this screen.

We do not recommend downloading directly from the host to a diskette or CD. Download directly from the mainframe (host) to your PC first.
If you need to stop the download process after it has already been initiated on the PC, switch back to the mainframe (CIRS) and press the PA1 key.
File Transfer Settings
If you need assistance using your file transfer software, refer to the software documentation or contact your campus IT support. In general, the file transfer settings are:
Host Environment should be set to TSO.
Transfer program should be set to IND$FILE.
Transfer Options selected should include ASCII, CRLF.
The host file name should begin and end with single quotes.
The PC file name should have a .TXT file extension.
After initiating the file transfer, the TSO COMMAND PROCESSOR screen will display a message indicating the name of the file along with the transfer settings.

Press the F3 key to return to the previous screen in CIRS.
If the transfer was successful, the emulation software settings will indicate YES for both the type and name match.
If the transfer failed (e.g., one or both of the emulation settings indicate NO), check your settings and initiate the download again.
After a successful download, you can open the spreadsheet or word processing software on your PC and open the downloaded file.
