Indexing Your Library

If you have more than a dozen programs in your library, you could benefit from an index. Creating one is simple!  Read on for a couple of suggestions.

  • In your own library, you can create a FOCEXEC named INDEX and use it like a blank sheet of paper to type the name and description of your programs. To get a head start on the format, you can copy a few lines from the common library index named AAINDEX.
  • You can also create an index of your library using an Excel spreadsheet or Word document. Using either software application will allow you to search for keywords and have the listing open simultaneously with your CIRS session.

Whichever method you choose, your index should include the name of the program, the file(s) it uses and at least a brief description of the purpose.
